STUDENTS SPEAK!

Suzanna

¨I have to say that my very short one week stay at CBA far surpassed my expectations. Out of all the places in the world I could have gone, for some reason, I was drawn to this place and now I know why. I had studied Spanish years and years ago, but never had been able to make the leap from struggling with grammar to actual conversations. Having only a week, I knew I had to do it alone and in a town not crawling with foreigners so that I would force myself into total immersion. I had been to Guatemala four years before on a "tourist" adventure. ¨

CBA is accredited by

Guatemala.

Quality is important to CBA. We are proud of the fact that all are instructors are certified to teach Spanish as a foreign language. We are also a proud member of ACEEQ (Association of Spanish Schools).

What does it take to be a CBA Spanish teacher?

To be a Spanish teacher in CBA, teachers need to obtain a specific teaching credential called "Maestro de Educacion Primaria" from an organization called Educacion Media. Teachers need to complete two years of university course work, and have a specialized degree in teaching foreign languages. Futhermore, to maintain their credentials, teachers take additional course work from Geografia Nacional (National Geographic), Literatura Hispanoamericana y Cultura General (Hispanic Literature and Universal Culture).

What does this mean for the student?

This tremendous educational requirement fully equips teachers to teach Spanish language and maintain the QUALITY of Spanish Instruction.

How exactly does the student benefit from an accredited teacher?

Our teachers are not only knowledgeable on linguistic pedagogy, but are knowledgeable on various aspects of social life of Guatemala. The transmission of knowledge through Spanish language enables the student to learn a language while learning about the Guatemalan culture, Mayan worldview, traditions and customs.
In the end, not only will the student learn the Spanish language, but also possess general knowledge about the political, cultural, economic, social aspects of Guatemala.
